Bob Peterson No Longer Directing The Good Dinosuar
What is going on with Pixar lately?! Pixar has no made 3 director changes over the course of 3 years! They did this with Cars 2, Brave, and now The Good Dinosaur. This is getting a bit out of hand.
However, Ed Catmull mentioned the reasoning of the director change:
"All directors get really deep in their films. Sometimes you just need a different perspective to get the idea out. Sometimes directors ... are so deeply embedded in their ideas it actually takes someone else to finish it up. I would go so far as to argue that a lot of live-action films would be better off with that same process."
This is starting to make me wonder about Pixar's future. I hope that changing directors won't be a normal thing at Pixar.
All hope about the film isn't lost yet, though. Ratatouille went through a director change and that film is a masterpiece. However, the director change happened in mid-2005, a while before Ratatouille was released, whereas this director change happened at the beginning of the summer, less than a year before the film will be released. This was a very weird move. I just hope that the director removal was to make the film better and not due to in-studio fighting or anything like that.
I have a feeling the film will be another masterpiece, though, because Pixar has always made great films, despite director changes. I'm not that worried.
What do you think about this director change? Do you think The Good Dinosaur still has a chance to be a masterpiece? Let me know in the comments.
