Frozen Breaks Disney Box-Office Records!
I am happy to say that Frozen has not only became the highest opening for a film by Walt Disney Animation Studios, but it has also became the highest grossing Thanksgiving opening film ever!
Yes, over the weekend, Frozen raked in $66 million beating the previously highest grossing Disney animated film opening, Wreck-it Ralph, which made $49 million on its opening weekend. Also, since the film came out on Wednesday on Thanksgiving, it has made an overall total of a whopping $93 million, beating Toy Story 2 which made $80 million and held the crown for the highest Thanksgiving opening for 14 years! Wow!
You see, Disney? You made Frozen feel like more of an event than just any other ordinary animated film during the Elsa-centric final trailer, which claimed it was the best Disney film since The Lion King. Look where it got you, Disney! That's how you market a film!
One thing I'm kind of disappointed about, though, was how it didn't make it on the top of the box office, but instead #2. Instead, the clearly overhyped The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made it to #1. I am prepared for all the hate I am going to get, but yes, I feel that The Hunger Games is way too overhyped and Frozen deserved to be #1 way more than Catching Fire did! Frozen is a true masterpiece! Reaching #2 with $93 million is not bad at all, but it deserved to be #1.
Overall, though, I am really proud of Disney and I hope they market their films as events from now on.
