'Cars 3' and 'The Incredibles 2' in Development
"Oh no, Pixar is dead! They're making Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2! Oh, how the mighty have fallen!" Don't be so quick to judge Pixar just yet...
I don't know what goes on within the doors of Disney. I don't know if Disney forced Pixar to make sequels or if they came up with good stories to tell, but Disney CEO, Bob Iger, has announced that Pixar is making Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2.
The Incredibles 2 is something that people are most likely really happy about and while I'm excited as well, I feel that what made The Incredibles so unique is that it was one of the few superhero films that did not have a sequel. If they can make it as good as the original, which, seeing as it is Pixar, it most likely will be, then I am completely on board with this! The Incredibles 2 is something that Brad Bird was coming up with for quite some time so that one could very well be in production because they have a good story.
Cars 3? Again, I don't know if this was being forced onto Pixar by Disney, but that is what many people are going to start thinking. The truth is that the Cars franchise is very personal to John Lasseter so it's really no surprise that he would want to make a third one. It is very possible that it was his idea to make this film because of this and while it is clearly going to make Disney happy, it can also have the potential to be a great film. I just hope Cars 3 will be a good film.
Cars 2 had a very bumpy production. There was a director change and they didn't even delay the film to fix the story. They kept the release date and, because of that, they had to rush it into theaters. If Cars 3 doesn't follow that same path, then there is hope! After Ed Catmull wrote about Pixar's future and their mistakes and that they will fix them, this raises my hopes of Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2 being great films even higher!
Don't be so quick to judge Pixar. These films could very well turn out to be masterpieces.
