'Frozen' Becomes the Highest Grossing Animated Film of All Time
Unsurprisingly, Frozen has become the highest grossing animated film of all time, taking the crown away from Toy Story 3. It is also now the 9th highest grossing film!
I am not at all surprised by this and actually predicted it soon after the film's release. I've also been waiting quite a while for Disney to have a success as big as this one. It's about time!
While I do think Toy Story 3 is a much better film than Frozen, it is kind of nice to see an original film become this successful, rather than a sequel. It proves that original films could be just as successful as sequels, if not more successful, which could hopefully get other animation studios to focus more on original films rather than sequel after sequel. Blue Sky, I'm looking at you!
I also hope that this milestone will give Disney enough faith in their films to do a better job advertising their films. They did some very good marketing with this film, other than marketing the hell out of Olaf. The Elsa-centric final trailer for the film did what any well done trailer should. It focused on the story and the characters and made the film look like an event. Hopefully after this, we will see more trailers for upcoming Disney films that are as good as that Elsa trailer.
Anyways, it's nice to see Disney finally have a big success after many years of box office disappointments. It further proves that ever since Disney and Pixar merged and John Lasseter started being a bigger part of Disney, we have entered another golden age in not only Disney, but animation as a whole.
