This is a really interesting story. Sony will be releasing
an R-rated animated film entitled Sausage Party in 2015. It will be written
by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir. The producers of
the film are calling the film raunchy. The film will be directed by Conrad
Vernon and Greg Tiernan
The synopsis is as follows:
After falling out of a shopping cart, the hero sausage and
his new friends embark on a journey through the supermarket to get back to
their aisles before the 4th of July sale.
I am feeling very mixed about this. On one hand, I feel that
there should be more adult oriented animated films so more people could
consider animation to be an art form than a genre. On the other hand, I feel
that animated films shouldn’t purposely target for a certain rating and instead
make an R-rated film that just so happens to be rated R. Making it so it can be
for a certain rating makes them seem a bit desperate, don’t you think?
Also, I am finding it difficult to comprehend the fact that
Sony Pictures Animation, the same studio that made The Smurfs, is making a film that is purposely
being rated R and is being described as raunchy. How can a studio that made
such a childish film end up wanting to make an adult oriented animated film?
I am not so fond of the story, either. The concept just sounds
so dull and silly. I’m not saying that Sausage Party will end up having a
horrible story and end up being a horrendous film (I’ll at least need to see a
trailer for the film before judging), I’m just saying that at the moment, I’m
not so fond of it. It could end up being a really good film. And this is making
2015 in animation way more interesting than it already is!
