My Thoughts on the New How to Train Your Dragon 2 Trailer

Before you watch this trailer, beware! There is a big spoiler in the trailer!
So what did I think of the trailer? Well, I thought it was okay. The spoiler in this film is nothing really impressive. It made my mouth drop, yes, but a few seconds after, I realized something:  *SPOILER ALERT!* The idea of Hiccup finding out that his Mom is alive seems a lot like the story of an upcoming DreamWorks film, don't you think? Which one, you might ask? Well, Kung Fu Panda 3 of course! Remember at the end of Kung Fu Panda 2 when we find out that Poe's father is alive? Well, clearly that means that in the third film, they are going to meet each other. *END OF SPOILER!* That is exactly what we are seeing here. Since both of these films are made by DreamWorks, could this mean that DreamWorks is following a new formula involving the "spoiler" in this trailer and making it a common thing in their films? I do not like seeing the same formula over and over again so I really hope not, but based on their track record, it seems they might be doing just that. You see, this would not be the first time DreamWorks has followed a formula. From 2004-2010, DreamWorks followed a rather stupid formula in each of their films. They crammed as much pop culture references as possible in their films and started to retell the same exact story, just with different characters! They took a few breaks from the formula by making films such as Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, but the formula was in every other DreamWorks film from that time period. In 2011, this all seemed to change. However, given the most recent DreamWorks films such as The Croods and Turbo, they haven't been doing as well as they were 2 years ago. They seem to be slipping back into making dull stories and I fear that this formula I mentioned will just be something they will keep on recycling to put at least the slightest bit of heart in the film. What did you think of this trailer? Do you fear DreamWorks could be declining in quality once again? Comment below!
