'The Incredibles' and 'Ratatouille' to be re-released in 3D
Despite the many recent Disney 3D re-release failures, Pixar is still deciding to convert two of their many masterpieces, The Incredibles and Ratatouille, in 3D.
According to this article, Pixar is, in fact, going through with converting these film in 3D. Whether it will be released in theaters or only on 3D Blu-ray was not announced. It will more than likely only be released on 3D Blu-ray, though, much like the Cars 3D re-release. However, this was not they only thing they talked about in this article.
Pixar's director of 3D, Josh Hollander also talked about how they are losing audiences who are interested in seeing 3D. Could this mean the end of 3D at Pixar and possibly the entire film industry? Only time will tell.
I have very little against 3D. Yes, the extra $3 is frustrating and yes the technology is being used in films that simply do not require it, but I feel that filmmakers could do a lot with the technology. I personally really like how Pixar uses the 3D technology to give depth, rather than resorting to gimmicks such as having things constantly popping out at you. Also, Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon was remarkable in 3D. I still remember watching it in 3D and just being in awe, and this was back in 2010! It was also amazing to see Finding Nemo in 3D. So 3D is not completely pointless when used correctly.
As for The Incredibles and Ratatouille being in 3D? I think there is a lot they can do with the technology here, especially with The Incredibles. If they are going to be released in theaters, I wouldn't mind experiencing these classics on the big screen once again.
